History

On 22 January 2007, I crossed the finishing line of the Dakar Rally at Lac Rose in Dakar, West Africa for the first time. After an exhilarating 10,000 km over 16 gruelling days, I had finally achieved my dream.

It has been a long, hard road in 2006. I was forced to pull out of the Dakar when on day-3 I crashed...twice! The first resulted in a cracked nose, knee, kidney injury, and a...

...dislocated shoulder which I managed to re-insert on my own -- only to fall a second time 180 kms later breaking three ribs. I was helped back on the motorcycle and rode 220kms, in agony, through the Morocan Desert. Eight weeks later, more determined than ever, I entered the first round of the world championship in Argentina / Chile, and I re-broke one of the rib. Three months later, in the Sertoes Rally in Brasil I got chronic food poisoning on the second day. I was unable to eat or drink for 4 days out of the 9-day Rally, and would have swallowed my own tongue without receiving the assistance of the medical helicopter. In one 'sick' stage, I stayed on the bike for 21 hours straight vomiting every half hour riding through the night without head light. In that race, the doctors nicknamed me "The Mutan."

But I finished, notched-up my first world rally championship points, and started my Foundation Dreams Do Come True to help disadvantaged kids achieve their dreams.

Now, after a 2009 Dakar full of misfortunes -- Team Rally Australia and I have our sights set on the ultimate test of man and machine, the 2010 Dakar Rally in South America. And we're inviting you to join us. We're currently looking for sponsors and partners to share the passion, the exhilaration and the achievement of adventure that goes beyond common human limits.

Whether you're a sponsor, a bike nut or simply inspired by the adventure, you can follow our progress, from race preparation through to updates from the races themselves here. You can get in touch by email or post a comment in the various blogs. Thank you for visiting our site, see you soon, and remember that if you keep believing in yourself...
